The 23rd Judicial District Court is comprised of three parishes, Ascension, St.
James and Assumption. Court is held in Gonzales, Donaldsonville, Convent and
Napoleonville. The judges rotate to each parish. Each parish has their own
respective clerks and sheriffs.
For appeal purposes, cases tried in Ascension and Assumption are appealed to the
First Circuit Court of Appeal while cases tried in St. James are appealed to the
Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal.
